Settlers returned the former site of Shdema, an Israeli military camp that was abandoned in 2006, to spray-paint their ideological claims to the land.
There are multiple references to Rabbi Kahane, who founded Kahane Chai, a far-right Israeli political party advocating the forcible expulsion of Palestinians from Israel and the Occupied Territories. Kahane Chai is on both Israel’s and the US State Department’s lists of terrorist organizations.
The graffiti also references the Stern Gang, self-proclaimed "fighters for the freedom of Israel," which advocated the takeover of the area from the Mediterranean to the Euphrates (including present-day Jordan, Syria, and Iraq) and "constant war against" those standing in their way (according to the organization's "18 Principles of Rebirth." Their actions included:
(1) Systematically murdering more than 100 men, women, and children in Deir Yassin village in April 1948, as part of a carefully planned and orchestrated process that would collectively induce the flight of 70% of the indigenous Palestinian population to make way for an ethnically Jewish state. (3) Bombing the Haifa-Cairo train & a British police station,
(4) Offering to enter WWII on the side of Nazi Germany in exchange for "the establishment of the historic Jewish state on a national and totalitarian basis, bound by a treaty with the German Reich." (Source)
